A pulsating 3-3 draw played out between Greenwood A and Kanturk A in the sunshine at the sports ground in Togher on Tuesday evening.
Robbie McAuliffe put Kanturk ahead early on after neat inter play with Cian O Riordan. Greenwood were a threat though and Billy Hayes pulled off a wonderful save from a free kick on the edge of the box which was heading for the top corner. He was needed again 5 minutes later when a dangerous corner was thundering right into the roof of the net but Billy somehow got a strong hand to it and swept it to safety. Kanturk had the majority of the play but Greenwood struck with 5 minutes to go with a finish low to the corner. Kanturk didn't quite recover and Greenwood scored again just before half time with both goals coming against the run of play.
Kanturk upped the intensity and the energy levels in the early second half. Darragh Aherne, Billy Sheill and Dylan Cott were on top in midfield and when Peter Gubbins received a lovely pass from Billy Sheill he went on an unstoppable run down the right hand side with his cut back being met by Darragh Aherne to score his third of the season and haul Kanturk level.
Kanturk continued to press and a fantastic corner routine again involving Billy Sheill was played short to Cian O Riordan who curled an excellent cross into the box that was met by the head of the unplayable Gubbins, who arrowed his header right into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance.
Greenwood searched for the equaliser but JJ Keane and Callum Dennehy were dealing with the danger with aplomb. At the very end however, Greenwood stole in at the far post to meet a cross at the edge of the box to force a scarcely deserved equaliser and deny Kanturk the 3 points. 3-3 it finished. An absolute classic.
