Kanturk AFC u14 took on 1st division Blarney Utd in the National Trophy at Gurteenard on Sunday morning.
7 minutes in and a Blarney corner was not dealt with and the ball was smashed home. The game ebbed and flowed and Blarney extended their lead with a headed goal 15 minutes into the second half.
Kanturk threw caution to the wind and went to a 3-4-3 formation. Within minutes Ross O’Callaghan had pulled a goal back. With time running out Ross burst down the touchline, whipped in a cross which Patrick Healy bravely headed in.
2-2 and into extra time, no more goals and so to penalties.
Zak Parnis saved the first and second penalty whilst Billy O’Callaghan and Patrick Healy scored theirs.
A Bandon penalty then went wide. Fiachra Buckley hit the crossbar. Bandons 4th hit the bar to send Kanturk through.
A fantastic team performance from a team with the bare 11 players.
A big thanks to Timmy Kelleher from the u13’s who played up and put in a sterling performance.
Thanks to Blarney for travelling and playing their part in a thrilling match.
Onto the next round.
